Description

In anticipation for his book talk, join us for a special screening of Guillaume Gallienne’s 2013 autobiographical coming-of-age comedy film, Les garçons et Guillaume, à table ! (Me, Myself and Mum).

As a boy, Guillaume is fascinated by his mother and her mannerisms. He learns to imitate her voice and gestures, to the dissatisfaction of his father. After catching Guillaume pretending to be Sissi, the Austrian empress, his father sends him away to an all-boys boarding school. Constantly taunted, Guillaume pleads with his father and is then sent to an English boarding school, where he develops a crush on a classmate named Jeremy.

Adapted from Gallienne’s successful 2008 one-man stage show, Les garçons et Guillaume, à table ! is a funny and touching story about discovering gender identity and sexuality through the bond of a mother and son. It won five César Awards in 2014, including Best Film and Best Actor for Gallienne.

Doors at 6:00 pm for a wine reception. Screening at 6:30. Please enter via 54 W Chicago Ave. Non-alcoholic options will be available.

Guillaume Gallienne will be visiting the Alliance Française de Chicago on Friday, April 24 for a discussion about his acting career and his recently published collection of poems, Le Buveur de brume (The Mist Drinker).
