Our second installment of our February Fantastique Film Festival is François Truffaut’s 1966 adaptation of the Ray Bradbury dystopian classic, Fahrenheit 451.
In the future, a totalitarian will employ Firemen, a force to find and destroy all literature. One fireman, Guy Montag, meets his neighbor Clarisse, a young school teacher, who asks him whether he has ever read a book he’s burned. Curious, Montag begins to hide books in his house and read them, creating conflict with his television-addicted wife Linda. As Montag begins to question the purpose of burning books and the consequences of television, his world as he knew it begins to fall apart.
Considered today to be an “underrated picture,” Fahrenheit 451 has gained significant acclaim over the years and continues to inspire directors with its humor and intelligence.
Doors at 6:00 PM. Program at 6:30. Please enter via 54 W Chicago Ave.
