In celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re screening French filmmaker Stéphane Ly-Cuong’s 2025 musical Dans la cuisine des Nguyen (In the Nguyen Kitchen).

Yvonne Nguyen, a young Franco-Vietnamese actor, dreams of a career in musical theater. Her mother would like to see her pursue a more serious profession: specifically, taking over the restaruant she runs in the suburbs. Will the two women ultimately overcome their differing perspectivres through traditional Vietnamese cuisine?

Stéphane Ly-Cuong is a French filmmaker, director, screenwriter, actor, and journalist born October 22, 1972 in Eaubonne (Val-d’Oise). He studied at Paris VIII, at the Brooklyn College, and at La Fémis (screenwriting workshop). His films explore issues facing the Vietnamese diaspora.
Getting Here
The Alliance Française de Chicago is one block from the CTA Red line stop at Chicago Avenue. Best bus routes are the 22 on Clark and the 66 on Chicago Avenue. A Divvy station is located in front of the Chicago Ave entrance.
