Description

20 Linocuts by Parisian master engraver Kristin Meller, director of l’Atelier aux Lilas pour la Typographie et l’Estampe in Paris.

“The concept of the cosmic rabbit series springs from the Aztec concept of time as circular: life is followed by death and death is followed by life.“

The Alliance is excited to welcome Kristin Meller and her exhibition to our Salon this fall. With an intention to represent the graphic vision of circular time, Meller chose a rabbit to demonstrate her artistic vision. The animal’s life journey is shown, triggering the audience to reflect not only the rabbit itself but also its place in the universe. Through combining colors and graphic elements - like the codex - Meller creates her “cosmic rabbit” and the cosmic circle it embodies.

Special thanks to Arceo Press & Studio and Lili Gaubin for their support.

Meller has exhibited her prints and books in Japan, Germany, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, Italy and the US. Previous exhibits include “Histoires confinées BD gravée” at Galerie des Cascades, Paris and “Ne bastonne pas l’araignée” for L’Estampe et l’Art Populaire, Paris.

Born in London in 1959, Meller went from earning an undergraduate degree at Oxford University to a masters in French literature at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. It was also in Paris she learned printmaking, wood cut, typography and more. In 1992, she began creating artists books, starting with her series “Variation on various themes.” She co-created a studio for prints and typography, in 2006, located in Les Lilas, outside of Paris. Currently, she serves as the director of l’Atelier aux Lilas pour la Typographie et l’Estampe in Paris.
