About the Sommelière

Alicia Barrett fell in love with wine on a trip to Burgundy. After completing her initial studies at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust global headquarters in London, she and her husband moved back to the United States where she worked as a sommelier at the InterContinental Hotel-Chicago and in wine retail while pursuing her WSET Diploma, which she obtained in 2020. She went on to serve as the head of wine education for Binny’s Beverage Depot, the largest wine and spirits retailer in the Midwest for seven years, responsible for creating one of the top retail wine education programs serving nearly 2,000 employees. She has served as a WSET Instructor for the American Wine School and still teaches on behalf of the U.S. Champagne Bureau. Her time in the wine industry has brought her to wine regions around the world, partnering with some of the world’s best winemakers to advance wine education in the Chicago market.

Driven by a passion for crafting exceptional experiences through thoughtful, immersive wine education, Alicia has created her own company, Wine Connection, to offer bespoke wine tastings for corporate, non-profit and trade sectors.
