We really felt that we barely scratched the surface of the extraordinarily complex Crus system in February… while tasting extraordinarily complex wines! Our sommelière Cedar Stoltenow is back to answer some of our questions, such as, who decides what areas should become a Cru, and what is this decision based on?
Using the examples of the Loire Valley Muscadet and Gamay from Beaujolais, we will look at how specific crus become differentiated from their surrounding regions, and in Burgundy’s Pouilly Fuisse and the Rhone Valley we see how Crus distinguish themselves, and start moving up the ladder towards the elusive Grand Cru title. We finish in Bordeaux, with the Cru Bourgeois, as we continue the exploration of the region with the most frequently changing system in France.
Calling all oenophiles to join us!
