Alliance Française de Chicago members are invited to attend a free webinar from the comfort of their home computers.

Why are French wines unique, and what should you look for when you taste them? French wine specialist Jessica Green will introduce us to three of the world’s top wine regions: Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Loire. This Zoom session works with or without wine on hand, but feel free to have any or all of these to taste with us:

The session will be hosted by Pamela Druckerman from Paris, as part of her popular Pandemonium U series of educational sessions on Zoom (this session is sponsored by the national Federation of Alliances Françaises, of which AF de Chicago is a part).

Pamela Druckerman (in the right photo) has lived in the City of Lights since 2004 and is the author of four books including Bringing Up Bébé: One American mother discovers the wisdom of French parenting, which has been translated into 30 languages. She’s been a contributing opinion writer at The New York Times since 2013 and a columnist for 1843/the Economist since last year

In the 45-minute Zoom meeting, Pamela will discuss the topic ““What you’re drinking when you drink French wine: An introduction and tasting tour”" with Jessica Green. Jessica (left of photo) teaches at the International Wine Center in New York. She earned the Diploma from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust in 2011 and is currently a candidate for the Master of Wine qualification, which is held by just 394 people worldwide. For five years, she lived in Lyon, France, between Beaujolais and  the Northern Rhône.

Jessica will cover why are French wines unique, and what should you look for when you taste them. She’ll cover three of the world’s top wine regions: Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Loire. This Zoom session will be in English with a smattering of French vocabulary. You can join with or without wine on hand, but feel free to have any or all of these (sourced from your local wine-shop) to taste during the session:

  • A Chablis from Burgundy (Jessica will taste Jean-Paul Droin Chablis 2018, but any white Burgundy will work)
  • An AC Medoc from Bordeaux (Jessica will taste Chateau Greysac 2015; any Bordeaux red will do)
  • A Chinon from the Loire (she’ll taste Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses; any Loire red — Chinon, Bourgueil or Saumur-Champigny – will do)

This event is free for Alliance Française de Chicago members, and is suitable for those 21+. You will receive the Zoom link on prior to the Friday morning event.  À bientôt!
