Visages Villages / Faces Places by Agnès Varda & JR (France,2017, 94 min.)

With award-winning photographer Sandro - In French with English subtitles.

Agnès Varda, along with Jean-Luc Godard, is one of the two surviving leading figures of the French New Wave. What better way to close our Nouvelle Vague, Revisited series than by screening her most recent film? Since her groundbreaking Cléo de 5 à 7, Varda’s career has become, and continues to be, the stuff of legend.;

In Visages Villages, Agnès, 89, and French photographer and muralist JR, 33, hit the road together. They share a lifelong passion for images and a curiosity about how they are created, displayed and shared. The two travel through small French villages in JR’s truck-cum-photo studio, meeting locals and producing epically proportioned portraits of them. The photos are then prominently displayed on houses, barns, storefronts and trains; bold monuments to the beauty and humanity of the villagers. Visages Villages documents these heartwarming encounters as well as the unlikely, tender friendship that forms along the way.

“Sheer perfection – that’s the phrase that springs to mind when describing the humanist miracle that is Faces Places (…).” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

And what better guest speaker than award-winning photographer Sandro to introduce Visages Villages?

Please note : Wine service at 6:00 p.m., program starts at 6:30 p.m.
