2017 was a year when the world lost two icons of French cinema - Jeanne Moreau (1928-2017) and Danielle Darrieux (1917-2017). Their combined careers cover 142 years of film-making. We celebrate their memory at the Alliance with a double feature of two of their best films: Jules et Jim (Truffaut, 1962) and Madame de... (Max Ophüls, 1953).
11:00 a.m. - Madame de...
Darrieux, as the Comtesse de... received a pair of earrings as a wedding gift from her husband (Charles Boyer) and the film follows these earrings as they change hands multiple times under many different circumstances. The renowned critic Andrew Sarris once referred to it as the "most perfect film ever made."
Join us for the screening of Jules et Jim (Truffaut 1962) at 1:00 p.m.
