2017 was a year when the world lost two icons of French cinema - Jeanne Moreau and Danielle Darrieux. Their combined careers cover 142 years of film-making. We celebrate their memory at the Alliance with a double feature of two of their best films: Jules et Jim (Truffaut, 1962) and Madame de... (Max Ophüls, 1953).
1:00 p.m. - Jules et Jim
Jules and Jim tells the story of a love triangle set in the time of World War 1 in which Moreau plays Catherine to Henri Serre's Jim and Oskar Werner's Jules. Ginette Vincendeau describes Moreau as having "A kind of cerebral sexuality -- the hallmark of the nouvelle vague woman."
Join us for the screening of Madame de... (Ophüls 1953) at 11:00 a.m.
