Introduction to Literary Translation (FR > ENG)

Discover the art & craft of Literary Translation! Join this 6-week workshop to deepen your linguistic and cultural understanding of the French language, while sharpening your writing skills in English. Each week, participants will take home a short excerpt to translate from French to English. We will then discuss and workshop our translations together in class. Students will explore a variety of French literary texts that pose a variety of challenges in translation—such as cultural references and idioms, metaphors, the inclusion of various dialects or regional slang, period-specific dialogue, and more! Learn to read & write like a translator in a lively, engaging, and supportive setting.
