Introduction to Literary Translation (FR > ENG)

Discover the art & craft of Literary Translation! Join this 6-week workshop to deepen your linguistic and cultural understanding of the French language, and invigorate your relationship with the English language. · Each week, participants will take home a short excerpt to translate from French to English. We will then discuss and workshop our translations together in class. Students will explore a variety of French literary texts that pose different challenges (or opportunities!) in translation, such as cultural references and idioms; jokes, wordplay, and metaphors; the inclusion of various dialects or regional slang; period-specific dialogue; and more! · Learn to read & write like a translator in a fun, engaging, and supportive setting.
