Explore contemporary Francophone literature through a guided, interactive reading of Gaël Faye’s acclaimed novel Petit pays. Over six weeks, we will examine the novel’s language, style, characters, themes, and narrative structure while developing strategies for reading and discussing literature in French. The workshop will also consider the relationship between the novel and its film adaptation, Small Country: An African Childhood, giving students an opportunity to compare how the story, characters, and atmosphere are conveyed across the two forms. Designed for B1–B2 learners, this course offers a supportive environment for engaging with a full-length contemporary Francophone work while building confidence in literary discussion and analysis.
