This is the first section of the B2-level Défi Actuel 4 sequence. In this Unit, you'll explore city life, urban development, and the changing identity of cities while learning to describe and evaluate different urban environments. You'll discuss the aesthetics and atmosphere of a city, share your impressions and opinions, and explore topics such as urban renewal, gentrification, and the cities of the future. Through authentic texts, multimedia activities, and real-world communication tasks, you'll practice expressing cause and consequence, and concession and opposition. You'll expand your vocabulary related to Paris and its landmarks, urban furniture, urban planning, transformation and renewal, urban development, gentrification, and technological change. By the end of this course, you'll be able to discuss urban issues, express nuanced opinions about cities, and describe how cities evolve and transform.
