None of these French writers succeeded in getting a Fauteuil at l'Académie Française but... the Alliance Française de Chicago gives you a unique opportunity to name your seat in the auditorium and leave a lasting legacy in support of our Cultural Programs!
Your generosity makes a difference as we continue to offer "All Things French" to Chicago and beyond through outstanding and innovative programs, many providing free admission for students through Entrée Libre initiative
Your support made a difference during the worst of the pandemic. Thanks to you, during that time, we reached more people than ever before worldwide, in English and French, by creating a true meeting place on zoom.
This is what you have helped us achieve in 2020-21:
- 4,300 participants from 15 countries
- 130 cultural programs
- 95 free programs
- And 10 châteaux visited in France!
We might not know what the future will be like, but we know that with your support we can achieve what we never thought possible before…
Merci pour votre générosité !

Not interested in fauteuil yet but still want to donate?
We are a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization with 40% of our revenues coming from fundraising.
Established in 1635 by Cardinal Richelieu, the Académie Française consists of forty members, guardians of the French language, known informally as les immortels, each sitting in their own fauteuil. New members elected by the Académie hold office for life.
Established in 1897, l’Alliance Française de Chicago is Chicago’s premier French cultural and learning center, dedicated to the study of French language, cultural exchange and friendship between American and French-speaking people.
Why your support is important
Thanks to the vision and commitment of Chicago philanthropists of the 1890s, the Alliance Française de Chicago has been an integral part of the city’s educational and cultural community for over a century. We pride ourselves in being diverse and international, by celebrating French-speaking cultures throughout the world.
How you can help us
We play an active part in the local community and are thankful for the generosity of Chicagoans who, year after year, help us sustain and grow the services centered on the love of French language and cultures. We also offer corporate sponsorship opportunities for programs and events.
We are a non-profit organization
We are independent from and do not receive any funds from the French Government.
