The Alliance Française de Chicago is over 100 years old and is part of an international network of over 1,100 Alliances worldwide. There are 140 Alliances in the US alone. Like all Alliances, we are an independently financed 501c (3) not-for-profit institution and the Chicago Alliance must raise 40% of our operating budget each year through donations.
Our Mission is to be Chicago’s center of French language and French culture—to promote exchange, understanding, and friendship between Americans and French speaking people—including Europeans, Canadians, Africa, the Caribbean and the Middle East—a world of more than 150 million French speakers. Through study of another language and its associated cultures, we help to develop a global view of the world.
